Overview
The ISU Junior Golf Program is a developmental program for juniors age 7-17. In order to provide a quality-learning environment, each Tour (class) is limited to 24 participants. Juniors will meet for a 45-minute clinic followed by a weekly competition. The program is administered by PGA Professional Laura Provost and Assistant Golf Professional Matt Schuerman.
Goals and Objectives
The primary goal of the ISU Junior Golf Program is to expose juniors to the game of golf, while promoting and educating them to become the future leaders of golf. We will strive to meet the following objectives.
- Provide a program to help juniors learn swing fundamentals, rules, course etiquette, and the spirit of fair play.
- Encourage participation in golf at the high school level and in all local, state, and national junior tournaments.
- Most importantly, instill the qualities of character that reach beyond the game and develop the understanding that golf should be fun and is indeed the game of a lifetime.

Tours (Classes)
Parents and juniors should suggest which Tour they would like to play. Please be conservative in skill estimates. The program staff reserves the right to reassign players to a Tour that best fits their assessed skill level.
- PGA Tour begins at 9:30am. These golfers are 12 to 17 years old and have played a great deal of golf. They have an understanding of course etiquette and an intermediate skill level. PGA Tour players should be able to play 9 holes in 2 1/2 hours or less and shoot 54 or better (6 strokes per hole average). Juniors able to demonstrate the appropriate skill and maturity may be permitted to play 18 holes with parental consent and pro shop approval.
- Nationwide Tour begins at 10:30am. Nationwide Tour golfers are 10 -12 years old and have played some golf with their families. These juniors have the skill level to play 5 holes each week. Nationwide Tour players should be able to play 5 holes in 1 1/2 hours or less and shoot 45 or better (9 strokes/hole avg.).
- Futures Tour begins at 11:30am. These juniors are 7 to 10 year old beginning golfers and play 2 shortened holes each week. The instructional staff will stress the proper fundamentals of grip, aim, and set-up as well as how to swing in balance. This group will play an individual stroke play format each week.
Parental Involvement
In order for the ISU Junior Golf Program to be successful we need your assistance to serve as an observer. Observers supervise the play of the group during their weekly competition round. Responsibilities include ensuring player safety, assisting with scoring, and keeping the groups playing at a good pace of play. Please note the dates you are available to participate on the registration form.
Other things parents can do to make sure their junior enjoys the program include:
- Provide golf equipment (clubs and balls) for each competition. Balls for all clinics will be provided.
- Make sure equipment is properly tagged with the owners name and phone number. (We have found that mailing labels placed just below the grip and covered with a piece of scotch tape work great!)
- Spend time on the course with your child practicing and reinforcing what they are learning during junior golf sessions.
- Enforce the rules and regulations regarding safety, etiquette, and course use.
